Tattoos

An ancient art form that involves embedding permanent designs into the skin with pigment, tattooing has been practiced for thousands of years. While some tattoos hold significant cultural meaning, many individuals choose body art for its aesthetic value or for its deeply personal symbolism.

We specialize in all kinds of tattooing, and we will do everything in our power to ensure that the process is as enjoyable and pain-free as it can be.

We respect tradition at Knuckle Up, which means that we like each tattoo to be entirely unique. Even if you pick something off the wall or out of a book, we’ll make sure that your piece is unique to you.

Pricing

For tattoos, the old adage rings true: “You can have it Good and Fast, but not Cheap, You can have it Good and Cheap, but not Fast. You can have it Cheap and Fast, but not Good. You can’t have all three.”

We have a minimum price for tattoos of 25,000HUF per customer. This price includes all set-up and the cost of the materials used. It also includes an after-care sachet.

If your tattoo is very small, it may be possible to get a second tattoo without paying more than the base price. Discuss this with your artist before your session.

For larger pieces, the price is calculated based on size, location on body, and technical demands on the artist.

If you know exactly what you want, we’re happy to provide you with a quote. Best practice is to sit down for a consultation. At the end of the meeting, the artist will give you a detailed breakdown of the process and how much you can expect to pay for your piece.

Consultations

One of the things we pride ourselves in at Knuckle Up is our customer service. Body embellishments are not something to take lightly, so we walk all of our customers carefully through each step of the process from inspiration to healing.

This begins with an in-depth consultation. You can get to know your artist and discuss your ideas. We’ll ask those important why questions. We want to hear about what you want, but we also want to know what these symbols mean to you. It’s crucial that the customer and the artist are on exactly the same page. This will help us ensure that you walk out our door with a piece you will love forever!

During the consultation, we’ll talk to you about styles and imagery and some of the history and meanings associated with each. We’ll then turn to the practicalities (e.g., how long it will take to work up a design and how long the tattoo itself will take). From there, we can turn to scheduling appointments at a convenient time for both you and your artist.

The relationship between tattooist and the tattooed is far more intimate than that of, say, a barista and a coffee drinker. It’s important that you feel comfortable with your artist, so the consultation is a great opportunity to break the ice and really get to know each other. If you don’t feel like it’s a good fit, don’t hesitate to let us know. We’ll find another artist that you feel more comfortable with.

What to know before a session

In order for us to provide you the best service, we ask that you provide us with reference images that give us a detailed impression of what you’re looking for. This will give the artist inspiration and direction when they create your design. We are not mind readers. The more detail you can provide (including the size in cm and where on your body you’d like the tattoo to sit), the more likely that we’ll be able to get the design right on the first try.

  • What - What are you looking to get?

  • Where - Where is the tattoo going to be on your body?

  • When - What dates are you looking to get tattooed?

  • Size - How big is the piece going to be? ( Width x Height in cm )

Tattoo Sessions Step-by-step

  • 1. Meet your artist and discuss what you want and what you like and don’t like. You can pick something from our flash books, or you can work with your artist to create a custom design.

  • 2. The artist prepares your design, offering you a range of sizes.

  • 3. The artist will prepare and make the stencil that will be applied to your skin. To ensure that the stencil transfers cleanly, the area may need to clean and shave the area.

  • 4. While the stencil dries, the artist will clean and prepare all the equipment. You can rest easy knowing that we only use the highest-quality materials. Hygiene and safety are our top priorities.

  • 5. Your artist will make sure that you are ready and happy to proceed. They will then make sure that you are sitting or lying in a comfortable position before beginning.

  • 6. You get tattooed. Your artist will check in with you frequently during the process to make sure that you are comfortable. If you are uncomfortable with anything, don’t hesitate to let them know. Communicate openly with your artist throughout the process. If you need a break or need to change position, let your artist know.

  • 7. Once your tattoo has been completed, your artist will clean the area and wrap the piece for 10-15 mins to allow the work to bleed a little before any after-care products are applied.

  • 8. The artist will apply an after-care product known in the tattooing industry as “second skin”. This is a transparent adhesive film that will cover your tattoo for the next 5-7 days which will encourage healing.

  • 9. Your artist will brief you on how to look after your new tattoo while it heals. They’ll tell you what products to use and what products and activities you should avoid.

Aftercare

During the healing process, it is 100% YOUR responsibility to look after your tattoo. But it is 100% OUR responsibility to provide you with the best advice. Listen carefully as we tell you how to look after your tattoo during the healing process. These are the stages you can expect to go through:

1. After completion of the tattoo we will apply a self adhesive dermal bandage (aka “second skin”).

2. The second skin should remain on the tattoo for a minimum of 5 to 7 days.

3. After 5-7 days, carefully remove the second skin in the shower, under lukewarm water. Do not rip it off like a bandaid. Remove it slowly and carefully.

4. After the second skin is removed, gently wash your tattoo with a light, natural antibacterial soap. After the shower, gently dab your tattoo dry with a paper towel (not a bath towel).

5. When the tattoo is clean and dry, apply the aftercare product (ideally one with natural ingredients like cocoa butter, shea butter, etc., rather than bepanthen). Apply the cream 2-3 times a day for approximately 4 weeks.

6. For optimal healing, try to avoid direct sunlight, baths, pools or any extremely humid environments where bacteria can spread.

All of our aftercare products are vegan and cruelty free. We have spent a long time studying and experimenting with different aftercare products and methods, and we stand firmly behind the aftercare products we recommend and sell in our studio. With more than five decades of experience between us, our recommendations are based on experience with thousands of clients and dozens of after-care products and home remedies. You can take our word for it. Take our recommendations seriously and your tattoo will heal quickly and beautifully.
